Toy and play expert Charlene DeLoach joined CT Live on NBC Connecticut to share toys designed to make sibling play easier, more flexible and less frustrating for families.

Finding a good toy for one child can be difficult enough. In households with siblings, parents also have to consider different ages, interests, abilities and play styles. The strongest sibling-play toys give children multiple ways to participate. Instead of forcing everyone to play the same way at the same time.

During the segment, Charlene highlighted games, building toys, playsets and hands-on activities that support cooperative play, parallel play and shared family experiences.

What Charlene Shared on NBC Connecticut

Charlene explained to Abbey Carnivale (Host, CT Live) that a strong toy for siblings is not simply one children can share. It should give each child a meaningful role or a separate way to participate.

Some toys encourage children to work toward a shared goal. Others allow siblings to play side by side with the same materials. The best options provide enough flexibility that children can join, step away or change how they play without bringing the entire activity to a stop.

That flexibility can reduce arguments over turns, rules and who gets to control the play.
