Believe it or not, this year I am gifting games and toys to my parents – my kiddos’ grandparents. Why? They have almost everything they need as retirees, but they love to entertain their friends and love having the grandkids visit. So time to stock up on grandparent games as gifts!
Great Games for Grandparents
These are two of my current favorites – The Exit Game and An Inappropriately Appropriate Game for Mischief Makers. I think the games are fun and they are great for the older crowd since they’re rated 12+ and 8+ respectively.
When my parents have their friends over for dinner, they can pull one of these two games out to have fun without the fuss. They are easy to pull out, play, and put away. They are also fun with a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) and after a pot-luck supper or aprés a dinner party. These are the perfect pairing.

With six themes from which to chose, the Exit Games are Escape Room games for the home. This game can be played only once, because you markup, fold, and tear the game materials, but what a fun time to be had!
For example, in the Pharaoh’s Tomb version, the excursion to the Valley of the Kings is the highlight of your vacation to Egypt. As you crawl through the narrow passageways, you lose the rest of your tour group. You enter a mysterious burial chamber. A massive stone door closes behind you. On the floor lie a dusty notebook and an ancient disk … Can you solve the riddles left for you by an earlier pyramid explorer and escape the tomb?
In the Abandoned Cabin game, after your car breaks down, you are looking for shelter for the night. Luckily, you find an abandoned cabin in the woods near the road. But the next morning, the door is locked! Iron bars on the windows prevent you from escaping. You discover a book and a strange disk … Can you solve the riddles left for you by the deranged cabin owner and escape the cabin?
Woot! I love games like this. (I hope my parents invite me to condo association game night.) Due to the fun factor, and the age rating on both games, these are also great gift ideas for tweens and teens! See my other tween and teen recommended toy favorite here.
Otherwise, for under $25 each, these are two great games for the grandparents. They are easy to travel with too. So if they are going on a retiree cruise or are snow birds heading to warmer weather, they can bring these on-the-go.
