Crayola Crayon Carver and Animation Studio

When I was at the recent HoliDAY of Play Event sponsored by The Toy Insider, I got a glimpse of the hottest toys for the holidays and products by Crayola top the list.
One of them is the Crayola Easy Animation Studio and it was also named on of the Top 12 tech toys by The Toy Insider. Being a co-host of the HoliDAY of Play event, I didn’t get much chance to play with it (had lots of behind the scenes work to do), but it was one of those products at the event that intrigued me with its ingenuity, while maintaining the heart of Crayola: imagination in art. So much in fact, that I am hoping to give one to my son and nephew this holiday season.

The Animation Studio has a 30-page booklet, and kids can color in characters and backgrounds. After they are done, kids can scan them into the animation studio using the Crayola Color Alive Easy Animation Studio app. The app works with iOS and Android devices. Once characters and backgrounds are loaded into the app, kids can make their characters move and come alive! (Kids 6+, MSRP $29.99) It is a great blend between traditional play and the tech that kids love, and amazes me how far play has come since I was a kid!
Another Crayola product to consider is the Crayola Crayon Carver. Yup, you carve Crayola Crayons with fun designs and sayings. Such a fun activity for kids to do at home, or even as a birthday party activity (and kids can take custom Crayola Crayons home as a party favor!) (Kids 4+, MSRP $29.99) The carvings go into built in storage and you can get expansion packs to keep the fun going all year.
So if you are looking for toys that combine traditional play with modern sensibility, then these are a top two to consider!
