American Girl Girl of the Year 2027: Meet Daisy Davenport

American Girl by Mattel has introduced Daisy Davenport as its 2027 Girl of the Year, and this year the company is sending its newest character to summer camp.
Daisy is a 10-year-old from Madison, Wisconsin, who loves soccer, riding her bike and playing guitar. Her big adventure begins when she heads to Camp Gowonagin, the same sleepaway camp her mother attended when she was young.
There is one problem. Daisy was supposed to go with her best friend, Callie. When Callie gets hurt and can’t attend the same session, Daisy suddenly has to navigate camp on her own.
For kids who have ever been excited about something right up until the moment they actually had to do it, there is plenty here that will feel familiar.
Who Is Daisy Davenport, the American Girl Girl of the Year 2027?
Daisy arrives at camp as a kid who is pretty comfortable with herself. She is athletic, independent and accustomed to being good at the things she does. Camp puts her in situations where that confidence doesn’t always help.
She gets homesick. She has to make new friends. She struggles with teamwork and develops a fear of the dark. Her story also explores what happens when a child who is comfortable taking the lead needs to listen to other people and occasionally be the beginner.
I actually like that choice for the character. A lot of kids are confident in familiar situations and completely thrown when the surroundings, expectations and people change.
Sleepaway camp happens to be a very good setting for exploring that.
What Does the Daisy Davenport American Girl Doll Look Like?
The Daisy Davenport 18-inch doll has green eyes, long auburn-red hair and bangs.
She comes dressed for camp in a purple sporty T-shirt, dark blue pleated denim skort, striped socks and purple tennis shoes. Her shirt features the number 44, which longtime American Girl fans may recognize as a nod to Molly McIntire’s connection to Camp Gowonagin in 1944.
The Daisy Davenport Doll & Book set is priced at $135 and includes the illustrated paperback book Meet Daisy Davenport.

Daisy Davenport’s Camp Story Gives Kids Plenty to Work With
The summer camp setting is probably the most interesting part of Daisy’s collection from a play standpoint.
American Girl could have created a doll, added a sleeping bag and a camp T-shirt, and checked the summer-camp box. Instead, Daisy’s world includes soccer, music, crafts, outdoor activities, friendship and camp traditions.
That gives kids quite a few directions to take the character once the book ends.
Daisy can be the soccer player one afternoon and part of a camp talent show the next. Kids can recreate something from the book or ignore the book altogether and invent their own campers, cabin drama and adventures.
That flexibility is important with a doll at this price point. I want an expensive toy to keep generating ideas after the excitement of opening the box is over.
What’s in the American Girl Daisy Davenport Collection?
American Girl has built quite a bit of Camp Gowonagin around Daisy.
The larger collection includes a camp cabin, campfire set, guitar, camp gear, craft activities, soccer accessories and Butternut, the camp’s Jack Russell Terrier. There are also additional outfits and camp-inspired accessories tied to Daisy’s story.
Parents certainly do not need all of it for Daisy to work as a toy. In fact, this is where kids can do something far more interesting.
A shoebox can become Daisy’s camp trunk. Building pieces can turn into another cabin. A blanket can become a tent. Kids can make camp badges from paper, create friendship bracelets or build their own miniature campfire.
The official accessories establish Daisy’s world. They don’t have to define its boundaries.
Why Daisy Davenport Has Strong Pretend-Play Potential
One of the questions I encourage parents to ask before buying a toy is simple:
Why Daisy Davenport Has Strong Pretend-Play Potential
One of the questions I encourage parents to ask before buying a toy is simple:
What can my child do with this?
Dolls have always been good storytelling toys because the child controls what happens. Daisy’s camp setting gives that storytelling a particularly broad starting point.
There is sports play for the child who loves soccer, music for the kid who immediately notices the guitar, crafts, pets, outdoor adventures and plenty of social situations to recreate.
Her story also gives children something less tangible to play around with. Daisy can be nervous. She can get something wrong. She can miss home or disagree with another camper.
Kids regularly work through those kinds of experiences during pretend play, often without consciously realizing that is what they are doing.
Outside the Toy Box Idea: Build a Doll Summer Camp
If Daisy moves into your house, don’t stop with the accessories that come from American Girl.
Have your child create a completely new camp.
They can name it, design a camp flag, build cabins from cardboard boxes or blocks and create badges for different activities. Maybe the dolls need to complete a scavenger hunt. Maybe there is a soccer tournament, talent show or nighttime campfire. An older child could even make a camp schedule or map.
Then throw something unexpected into the story.
The rain starts during the campout. Someone loses the trail map. A camper refuses to participate in an activity. Two cabin mates want the same bunk.
Those little problems give kids something to solve and usually keep pretend play going much longer than simply reenacting a scene they have already seen.
Is Daisy Davenport a Good Fit for Your Child?
At $135 before adding any accessories, Daisy is not an impulse purchase. I would look at how your child already plays before putting her on a birthday or holiday list.
A child who enjoys dolls primarily for collecting or styling may be interested in Daisy for completely different reasons. For a child who likes character-driven pretend play, however, the camp theme offers a lot of material.
That distinction matters more to me than how many accessories are available.
If your child already creates elaborate stories with dolls, stuffed animals or figures, Daisy gives them another character and a particularly rich setting to build around. If dolls mostly sit on a shelf after the initial excitement wears off, the $135 price deserves a harder look.
